Center Pin

The center pin is a solid steel rod that rests in a pocket in the middle of the bolster bowl. It serves to guide the center plate into the bowl when the carbody is being lowered back onto the truck after repair.

A second function is to help prevent the trucks from sliding out from under a car that has become off center.
