American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA)

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) is a trade association representing the owners and operators of short line and regional railroads in North America. These smaller carriers form the first and last mile of much of the rail network, connecting local shippers to the larger Class I railroads.

The association advocates for its member railroads on legislative and regulatory matters before government bodies, including the Surface Transportation Board and the Federal Railroad Administration, and it provides safety training, education, and industry resources tailored to the needs of smaller railroads. The short line tax credit and other policy issues affecting small railroads have been recurring focuses of its advocacy.

The ASLRRA traces its history to the early twentieth century, with roots in regional short line associations. Today it represents hundreds of short line and regional member railroads across the United States, along with supplier and contractor members that serve them.
